- Contractors show up at Pyramid to hear about construction bidding process
- Work to remove the insides of the Pyramid slated to begin in November
- City Council Committee delays action on what to do with statue outside Pyramid
A huge overhead score board, that hasn't been lit since the last game was played, is still in place.
The once bustling Memphis Pyramid has become stuck in time.
And now its time has come.
?All the chairs except the concrete structure will be removed, the chairs all the sky boxes, basically it's gonna be a big empty shell,? says Alan Barner with the O T Marshall Architectural Firm in charge of the project.
The architectural firm handling the Pyramid's future lays out for us what's to come as they get the building ready for Bass Pro to move in.
?The score board will be removed, all the signage,? says Barner.
They basically plan to gut the place, only leaving the arena, mezzanine and plaza levels
Bass Pro plans to put in shops, a restaurant, a hotel and even a swamp where you can do some inside fishing.
The floor where the Tigers and Grizzlies once played will be gone. In fact much of it will become water
?Water will go down 4 to 8 feet depending on the area. There will be five different pools of water, one for bass, alligator, crappie and catfish,? says Barner.
Barriers outside the Pyramid will be reinforced to make sure they are can withstand an earthquake.
And the area from Jefferson and Riverside Drive leading up to the South side of the Pyramid will even be renamed Bass Pro Boulevard.
It sounds like a lot of work and many people who gathered at the Pyramid Tuesday morning were contractors hoping to do it.
They learned about the bidding process and the efforts to assure minorities are involved.
?I think it?s a great perk for minorities. It will give us a chance to open up and let everybody else see we are making something of ourselves,? says Leeann Yeager of Black Lion Security.
