Updated 3:26PMThe Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee is hosting a dinner theater to fund future initiatives for the organization.
Dinner & Divas VII, held Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, will feature the play? What?s Done In The Dark.? Produced by Inner City South, the show is a dramatic comedy of three sisters who, through different circumstances, find themselves living together again.
Inner City South is a local performance art group featuring husband and wife duo, Dee-Lite and T-Remedi, that produces plays featuring their unique southern style of poetry communicating through art.
?It?s a great fit between Inner City South and The Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee,? said James Taylor, chief administrative officer with SCFT.?Dee actually lives with the disease, so she understands how important it is to support our organization and to help those individuals living with sickle cell.?
Founded in 2008 by Trevor Thompson who now serves as chief executive officer of the organization, the SCFT was established to meet the needs of individuals living with sickle cell disease. The foundation educates those diagnosed with the disease on how to manage it and improve their quality of life.
In spearheading the organization, Thompson drew from his extensive experience with The Diggs Kraus Sickle Cell Clinic in Memphis, where he served as chairman of the advisory council.
The foundation has been recognized as the official chapter for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America in the state of Tennessee, and promotes the concept,?live a life worth living.? To date, they have provided documented services to 391 sickle cell consumers and have educated more than 200,000 people on sickle cell disease.
The dinner will also feature guest emcee Kiki Sheppard, who made a name for herself with successful performances on?Showtime at the Apollo? in the 1980s.
For tickets to the benefit, visit www.innercitysouth.com. Advance tickets, including dinner, are $75. VIP seating and tables are available. The event will also feature a cash bar.
