- Local Unions feel that their endorsements of candidates will change the election outcome
- A Unionendorsement could mean financial support and campaign manpower
- Election is set for tomorrow
The Memphis Police Association Union is spending tens of thousands of dollars this yearendorsing and financially backing several candidates.
"I see people scrambling. I see an incumbent mayor standing on street corners. That doesn't normally happen," said Williams.
The Police Union as well as the Fire Union believe their endorsements will decide Thursday's municipal elections.
"We feel like it's going to comethrough and we might just change the complexion of city council," said Larry Anthony with the Fire Union.
When a candidate is endorsed by a union they usually donate money, campaign, and recommend their members vote for their slate of candidates.
That's something that could make the difference in a tight race.
"We've knocked on doors, we've made the phone calls, we've handed out the literature.
The playbook is out there and we've played by it," said Joe Norman with the Fire Union.
