(Memphis, 10/22/2011) April Wade, a teacher at Sheffield High School is charged with statutory rape, accused of having sex with a student.
Memphis police say, 34 year-old April Wade was arrested Friday night. According to investigators, earlier that day, a 17 year old Sheffield High School student admitted he was living with the Spanish teacher and had been having a sexual relationship with her for the past year.
The news of teh alleged affair got quite a reaction from neighbors Saturday. Especailly considering, the high school's former prinicpal was in the news for a sex tape that went viral.
"That's supposed to be a safe environment for the kids." said Tamara Jones, a mother who lives across the street from the school.
The Memphis City School District tells News Channel 3, none of the alleged relationship happened inside Sheffield High School. Wade is still employed as a teacher at the school. The district will wait until the investigation is done to make any decisions regarding April Wade's future as Memphis school teacher when the investigation is complete.�
Wade's court date is set for Monday, Octiber 24th.
