People: Stars honor ageless Bennett at 85

Legendary crooner Tony Bennett celebrated his 85th birthday with a star-studded concert Sunday in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House, looking youthful and spry as he performed for more than an hour without taking so much as a water break. He danced, told jokes and sang duets with Aretha Franklin, Elton John and Alejandro Sanz for a capacity crowd that included Robert De Niro and Katie Couric.

Former President Bill Clinton kicked off the evening's festivities. He said he and his wife, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, also in attendance, have been longtime fans of Bennett's music and art (Bennett is a painter as well).

"Tony Bennett has become part of our lives. Something special. Something different. An artist in so many ways," Clinton said.

Bennett, whose actual birthday was Aug. 3, then took to the stage and performed hits such as "The Best is Yet to Come," "Everybody Loves a Winner," and "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."

"I've been singing 50 years -- I will be honest, 60 years -- and I love it," he said.

Rashida understands bad hair days

Everyone has had a bad hair day -- even entertainers.

So, to promote its new hair care products aimed at fixing dry and damaged hair, Dove has enlisted actress Rashida Jones to star in a new campaign that encourages people to "make friends with your hair."

In the campaign, Unilever's Dove is promoting its Dove Nourishing Oil Care Collection of shampoo, conditioner and styling products with TV ads that show Jones contending with frizzy hair while meeting friends at a restaurant and in a yoga class.

Jones, daughter of musician Quincy Jones, has appeared in "The Office" and stars in "Parks and Recreation."

Holt to host 'Dateline NBC'

Lester Holt will replace Ann Curry as host of the newsmagazine "Dateline NBC" when it begins its 20th season on Sept. 23.

The NBC News veteran will keep his job as co-anchor of the "Weekend Today" show. Curry, who is now co-anchor with Matt Lauer of the first half of the weekday "Today" show, was judged too busy for both jobs.

Holt has been a valued utility player at NBC News, doing multiple reporting and anchoring jobs at the network and sister station MSNBC, and he said people often come up to him wondering when he takes time off.

Kate popped for speeding

Reality TV mom Kate Gosselin says she was hurrying home to her children when she was stopped for speeding last month in central Pennsylvania.

The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reports the star of TLC's "Kate Plus 8" pleaded guilty by mail to a speeding ticket for going 88 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Court documents say she pleaded guilty on Aug. 17 and paid $174 in fines and court costs.
