Storeowner Gunned Down Providing Better Life For Family

FAST FACTS:
  • Police Searching For Robbery Suspects Wanted For Murder
  • A Single Bullet Killed Samir Kandil
  • The Husband & Father Was Gunned Down At His Convenience Store
Samir Kandil got a rude welcome to Memphis.

Several months ago he bought the Bargain Market on S. Parkway, hoping to make enough money to bring his wife and kids from Egypt to the United States.

But Kandil's dream was shattered by a robber's bullet.

"I can understand somebody comes to rob you," says Baha Hajjae. "But to rob you and take your life it makes it very very dangerous."

Hajjeh unfortunately knows the dangers of owning a convenience store all too well.

He owns the Q Market right down the street on Lamar.

When asked what his worst fear is Hajjeh responded, "I tell you, now a days it's those young kids. they're carrying guns. there are a lot of guns out there in the street."

That fear became reality last month for Hajjeh.
A fight inside his store ended with bullets flying outside.

Sometimes incidents can turn deadly.
Back in may the clerk at the Express Mart in the Medical District was shot and killed.
Surveillance video shows the robber who shot the clerk and left him for dead.

Now Kandil has become the latest convenience store crime victim.

"That man was a good guy," says an angry Marcus Parker.

Parker worked with Kandil. You might say he even cheated death. He says Kandil sent him to run an errand.

When he came back his boss was dead and police were scouring the scene for clues.

Parker now left to wonder if a recent robbery at the corner store was an ominous sign of things to come.

"I don't know if same cats that robbed the store or did they come back to get more. i don't know what's going on. "
